The Southeast Missouri Regional Arthritis Center (SEMORAC) is one of seven such regional arthritis centers established by the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services.

The center is designed to offer arthritis education programs to the community members, allied health professionals and physicians. The Regional Arthritis Center is located in a new state of the art Health and Wellness Center on the Saint Francis Medical Center Campus in Cape Girardeau.

The SEMORAC serves an 18 county area including: Bollinger, Butler, Cape Girardeau, Carter, Dunklin, Iron, Madison, Mississippi,New Madrid, Oregon, Pemiscot, Perry, Reynolds, Ripley, Scott, Shannon, Stoddard and Wayne.

The mission of the Missouri Arthritis and Osteoporosis Program and the Regional Arthritis Centers is to reduce the burden of rheumatic disease by promoting optimal health and quality of life for all Missourians affected by arthritis, rheumatic disease and related musculoskeletal conditions through prevention, early intervention, education, service and collaboration.

Services Available

• Free educational information about the different types of arthritis and related conditions and ways to live well with arthritis.

• Self-management programs – Featuring self-management strategies for people who have arthritis or fibromyalgia. A resource guide is available to find a class in your area.

• Exercise programs – Arthritis Foundation exercise class listing is available.

• Chronic Disease Self-Management- The Stanford University Patient Education Research Center Program is for those with arthritis, diabetes, heart disease, asthma or other chronic conditions. A resource guide is available to find a class in your area.

• Speaker’s Bureau – Featuring professionals who will speak on many arthritis related matters for clubs, community organizations or religious gatherings.

• Community education – Featuring educational programs and health fairs conducted by physician or other professionals who work with individuals who have arthritis or other related conditions.  

• Referrals – For early diagnosis, treatment and community resources. A list of area rheumatologists is available.

• Leader Training for evidence-based courses: Arthritis Foundation Exercise, Self-Management and Chronic Disease Self-Management Programs. Ask about leadership opportunities.

• Support Groups – Featuring educational programs and information on arthritis and fibromyalgia.

• Juvenile Arthritis – Providing resources for children and their families for the diagnosis, treatment and support for JRA.

• Library Resources – The SEMO RAC office has books and videos available.
